Go to the shopThe Verigated agave, scientifically known as Agave parryi 'Varg', is a striking succulent native to the arid regions of Mexico. This plant is admired for its bold, architectural form and distinctive, rosette-shaped arrangement. The Varg Agave features thick, fleshy leaves that are typically a gray-green or blue-gray color, with prominent, sharp, white teeth along the leaf edges. The leaves are arranged in a compact, symmetrical rosette that can grow up to 18 inches in height and width. One of the notable characteristics of the Verigated agave is its relatively small size compared to other agave species, making it a great choice for smaller gardens or container plantings. The plant’s striking foliage creates a dramatic effect and adds a touch of exotic elegance to any landscape. During the spring and summer, the Verigated agave may produce a tall, flowering spike that can reach up to 4 to 6 feet in height, bearing clusters of tubular, yellow-green flowers. This flowering event is a key feature of the agave’s lifecycle, though the plant typically dies back after blooming, allowing offsets or pups to grow and continue the lineage. The Verigated agave thrives in well-draining soil and prefers full sun to partial shade. It is highly drought-tolerant and requires infrequent watering, making it well-suited for xeriscaping and low-maintenance gardens. With its dramatic form and resilience, the Verigated agave is a popular choice for adding a bold and sculptural element to succulent collections or arid landscapes.
